Bonjour tout le monde!

This morning we started later than usual, which was really nice. We met at 10 at the tram station to go to Confluence for the day. Since I just made a presentation about it, my knowledge on Confluence was pretty fresh.

Some background about it, just because it's interesting. Confluence, as the name suggests, is at the confluence of two rivers: the Rhône and the Saône. It was originally just a string of island at the tip of a peninsula, but in an attempt to expand Lyon, the rivers were drained to connect the land. It became very industrial, with many toxic factories, a jail, and a slaughterhouse. It gained a bad reputation because the only people there were workers. Sometime in the 90s, the mayor of Lyon decided to revamp Confluence. They started a journey to modernize the area. Now, it is a smart city, with the main goal of sustainability in mind. All buildings are made to reduce carbon footprints and minimize pollution. The architecture is extremely modern and funky. Confluence is an interesting contrast to the rest of Lyon.

We went on a walking tour of Confluence and learned about its journey as neighborhood. I think that the ideas to minimize the carbon footprint and become energy positive are really interesting. Our tour was very nice and I learned a lot about the area.

After our walking tour, we went to find lunch. After walking about a little, we fine a burger place to go to. I got an "American burger" and I still don't really know what that means, but it was great. Another fantastic meal from France.

Our afternoon class was Management and Innovation, and for today we met outside of the museum in Confluence to go on a tour. I've been here before, but even the second time was fascinating. Having a tour guide is also a bonus, she was great. At the end of the tour, we walked around the museum a little more, and we went to the rooftop to look at the views. You can see all of Lyon, it was absolutely stunning.

After our museum adventures, we went to dinner in the area. We found a tapas restaurant. We got some delicious cocktails to start, and then ordered our meals. I split a pizza with Andrea, and it was so so good. We also had some wine during dinner as well. After dinner, we walked around a little bit and enjoyed the scenery.

We had a long tram ride back, so we didn't stay too long after dinner. Overall, another fantastic day in the city!

À plus tard,

Maggie
